Alternatively, you can perform the stop and start using the name that is showed in the Services Control Panel applet by putting the name in quotes, i.e. net stop "" net start "" 2. To get a list of the running services enter the command net start (you can add > \[filename\] to the end to make it output to a file, i.e. net start > services.lst). You can then try to shutdown each of them by entering the command net stop "" ,e.g. net stop "spooler". Some services will ask you to enter a y to confirm, and for these just add /y to the end. You can also use the Resource Kit SC.EXE command, use sc query to get a list of the services, and then sc stop to stop the service.
